John Duddy celebrates victory over Freddie Cuevas |
Derry boxer John Duddy defeated Freddie Cuevas with a seventh-round TKO in defence of his WBC Continental Americas middleweight title in New York. It was Duddy's 17th straight victory since turning pro and the first defence of the title he won last March.
Cuevas was in bad shape when the fight was stopped, having received a broken nose and cuts above the eye.
"There was no sense in risking further injury," said his manager Alfonso Ortiz Senior.
