Bernard Dunne will hope for a European title shot later this year |
Bernard Dunne maintained his unbeaten record with a points win over eight rounds against Argentine Sergio Carlos Santilian in Turin on Monday night. The Irish prospect put the rugged former South American champion on the canvas in the opening round and went on to record his 20th straight win.
Dunne picked up a cut near his eye after a clash of heads in the early stages of the bout.
"It was a tough eight rounds and I got a good workout," said Dunne.
"He came to fight and didn't come here just to pick up his cheque.
"I got the cut early on after a headbutt so I had to try and keep the fight at long range after that.
"Maybe I could have stepped it up a few more times but I'm pretty happy with the win."
Dunne is now being aimed at a European title challenge later this year against Michael Hunter.
However, he will be in action next on 3 June in a contest at the National Stadium in Dublin.
