This was the second defence of Woods' world title |
Clinton Woods stopped Jason DeLisle in the sixth round to defend his IBF world light heavyweight crown in Sheffield. Woods had his Australian opponent in trouble as early as the second round as DeLisle struggled to stay in the fight.
But four rounds later Woods caught DeLisle with a devastating uppercut and he followed it with a left and then right hook to end the fight.
It was a second successful defence for Woods, who is eager for a third fight against old adversary Glen Johnson.
Woods is now set for a third meeting with the Jamaican after their first meeting in 2004, which Johnson won, and a draw a year earlier.

"I got the win and the stoppage, but there were times when the crowd thought I'd gone off the boil a little bit," said Woods.
"I think I had a little bit of ring rust to get rid of but, despite that, I felt I could pick up the pace whenever I wanted.
"My right hooks were hurting him and I knew I would stop him but I didn't think it would be until the eighth or ninth round, but I guess it was a nice early night for me.
"I've been off for eight months but still think I did it in style. I think I'm improving all the time but there's still room for improvement."
