Williams has his eyes on a world title |
Promoter Frank Warren says Danny Williams will get a crack at WBA heavyweight champion Nikolay Valuev but he will have to bide his time. The Commonwealth champion retained his crown with a split decision win over Matt Skelton on Saturday and said the Russian is next on his hit list.
"Valuev is fighting in April or May so he may not fight again until the autumn," said Warren.
"But there will be a fight. I'll deliver it as I have done in the past."
Williams beat British champion Skelton after 12 gruelling rounds in London and said he now wanted to move up to bigger things.
"I'd love to make the Valuev fight. I'd get myself in even better condition than for this," he said.
"I have beaten everyone on the domestic scene and now it is time to move on."
Former martial arts fighter Skelton played his part in a bruising encounter, and Williams said his opponent's lack of boxing experience made him a difficult prospect.
"That was very hard. With the style he has brought from K-1 fighting it was a very difficult fight for me," said Williams.
"He is awkward and he is tough but, give him credit, he is a real hard fighter."
