Woodhall was a success as an amateur and professional boxer |
Ex-WBC super middleweight champion Richie Woodhall has confirmed he is to leave his post as performance director with the Amateur Boxing Association. Woodhall took up the post four months ago, but says there are irreconcilable differences between himself and ABA head coach Terry Edwards.
"I can no longer work under the conditions I was operating under," he said on Thursday.
"It was no secret that my relationship with Terry Edwards was very difficult."
Woodhall, who now intends to pursue business ventures outside the sport, believed he was fighting a losing battle to get his ideas across at the ABA.
The 37-year-old's appointment was a surprise, given his lack of coaching qualifications.
"I got on with Terry as I got on with everybody, but I just felt that with the way things were going, the ABA needed to change," he said.
"I was prepared to make those changes but others were not so willing, and unless they are going to embrace those changes then I am afraid the ABA will continue to fail."
