Anderson will 'excite Scots fans'

Promoter Tommy Gilmour is confident Kevin Anderson's Commonwealth welterweight title challenge will excite Scotland's stay-away fans.

Anderson faces Ghana's Joshua Okine at Kirkcaldy Ice Arena on 30 September.

"We were delighted with the way the Fife crowd turned out to see Kevin in his last fight," said Gilmour.

"It was a super night and we expect that the crowd will increase greatly for the next show, particularly when there is such a major title at stake."

Alex Arthur complained about a poor crowd of just 1600 in Edinburgh after he beat Boris Sinitsin this month Saturday to clinch the European super-featherweight title.
I'm happy because we went above expectations with Kevin in the last show

WBO featherweight champion Scott Harrison fought his last defence of the title against Michael Brodie in Manchester, in part, because of disappointing attendances in his previous fights at the Braehead Arena.

But Gilmour, who successfully staged the first boxing show in Kirkcaldy in 52 years in June with Anderson beating Ukrainian Vladimir Borovski on points, believes the Fife will respond to their 22-year-old local hero.

"The capacity is three thousand, but I wouldn't kid myself on, we're setting the hall up for two thousand people but that's still a big hall, about the same size as the Kelvin Hall," said Gilmour.

"I'm happy because we went above expectations with Kevin in the last show and, even without television, we showed a profit.

"That must be good because that was purely bums on seats.

"My son Christopher did his first show in Motherwell without television recently and again showed a profit."

Anderson, unbeaten in 14 fights, admits the fans helped him through a tough 10-round win over Borovski last time out and the Buckhaven boxer insists he will have no problems selling tickets for the biggest fight of his career to date.

"It was great to have my home crowd behind me and they helped me," he said.

"I think we'll get a sell-out this time, everyone who was there at the first show was talking about how good it was and, with this being a title fight, I think we'll have a big pull."
