Maccarinelli could be in line to face Mark Hobson |
Enzo Maccarinelli is devastated that his shot at Johnny Nelson's WBO cruiserweight title is off. The pair's long-awaited clash was set for 4 March in Manchester, but was cancelled after Nelson's knee injury.
Maccarinelli will still fight on the MEN Arena bill, with Huddersfield's Mark Hobson, 29, or Italian Giacobbe Fragomeni the most likely stand-ins.
"I'm quite devastated about Nelson, but I have to be professional and get on with the job," said Maccarinelli, 25.
The likely clash with British and Commonwealth champion Hobson or ex-Olympian Fragomeni would be expected to be for the interim WBO title, with Nelson keen to face Swansea's Maccarinelli when he returns to fitness.

"I hope Johnny makes a speedy recovery and we can get it on," Maccarinelli told BBC Sport Wales.
"But if he's snapped his knee ligaments he could be out for a long time, and who knows what will happen?
"A fight with him has been on the cards for such a long time, I'd looked forward to it for years, and now it's been taken away.
"I've wanted to face Johnny because I considered him the best cruiserweight out there, but I'm happy to fight anyone."
