Wright outclassed Felix Trinidad last May |
Winky Wright has finally signed for a superfight with undisputed middleweight king Jermain Taylor on 17 June after months of painstaking negotiations. Talks broke down after Wright's request for a 50-50 split of the purse was rejected, but he has now backed down.
Taylor won the crown from the great Bernard Hopkins last July and beat him again for good measure in December.
Wright is a former light middleweight champion and beat Felix Trinidad in his first fight at 160lbs last May.
Wright dumped his promoter Gary Shaw last week after his failure to secure half of the purse.
But Shaw was rehired after Taylor threatened to pull the plug on the fight and it is thought Wright has settled for $3m (1.7m) to Taylor's $4m (2.3m).
Shaw said Las Vegas was the most likely venue, although Memphis, Tennessee and Atlanta have also been touted.
Shaw has confirmed that he will split from Wright for good after the clash with Taylor.
