Injury setback for Doherty in win
Tony Doherty (right)
Doherty is undefeated in 17 fights
Welsh welterweight prospect Tony Doherty suffered a suspected fractured hand in easing to a points win over Ernie Smith at the Nottingham Arena.

The 22-year-old won all six rounds, but the injury could upset plans for a Celtic welterweight title clash with fellow Welshman Taz Jones on 11 March.

The bout was Doherty's third with Midlands journeyman Smith.

Doherty won on points in 2004 but their last bout in July was a no contest due to a bomb scare during the fight.

Their latest meeting was also tarnished, with crowd trouble mid-way through the fourth round breaking the concentration of both men.

But the Welshman was easily able to extend his unbeaten record to 16-0 (7 KOs).
