Hungry Toney aims for total rule
James Toney
Toney wants to keep busy in search of his goal
Newly-crowned WBA heavyweight champion James Toney could return to the ring in July, with IBF title-holder Chris Byrd named as a possible opponent.

The American, who took the WBA belt from John Ruiz last Saturday, has his heart set on world domination.

Toney said: "I want everyone right now, including that monster Frankenstein (WBC champion Vitali Klitschko).

"I feel like nothing will keep me from being one of the all-time great heavyweight champions."

In dethroning Ruiz, the 36-year-old became only the third former middleweight champion to win a heavyweight belt.

At 5ft 9in, he is also the shortest world heavyweight champion in more than 100 years.

Toney continued: "The people want one heavyweight champion that they can identify and relate to. And believe me, I am it."

Toney also had some kind words for Ruiz, whom he had taunted relentlessly before and after their fight.

"Ruiz isn't pretty, but based on what he had done, he deserves credit. He is very strong and durable.

"Sure, he fights ugly. But aside from Lennox Lewis, there have not been very many recent heavyweight champions that had as many successful title defences.

"I will always appreciate Ruiz for giving me the opportunity. He just had the misfortune of having to fight me."
