Kevin was due to tackle 'Tyson' on Friday night |
Kevin Anderson's first defence of his Commonwealth welterweight title has been cancelled on the eve of the fight. The unbeaten 22-year-old Scot was due to take on Ghanian Agoe Ashongwill at Kirkcaldy Ice Rink on Friday night.
However, the West African, nicknamed Tyson because of his combative style, has failed a blood test.
The Scot's manager Tommy Gilmour said: "It's greatly unfortunate. When we found out late last night we only had two hours to find another contender."
Gilmour went on to praise the British Boxing Board of Control's medical procedures.
He added: "Ashong is on his way to London and is distraught about the whole thing.
"He came over with a blood test certificate from Ghana that was okay but when the blood tests were done over here they weren't okay.
"But there's always positive things to come out of miserable situations and the boxing board are a shining example to any organisation in the care and attention to the medical welfare of fighters entering the ring.
"Everyone knows it is a dangerous sport and as far as is humanly possible the board try to put these safety procedures into place."
Anderson won the title against another fighter from Ghana, Joshua Okine, in September but now he must wait for the chance to defend his belt.
