Hatton may make early ring return
Ricky Hatton
Ricky Hatton says he will consult with his eye surgeon before agreeing to put his world titles on the line again.

The Briton added the WBA crown to his IBF light welterweight belt by stopping Carlos Maussa on Saturday but sustained cuts above both eyes in the process.

Hatton has already had an operation to repair the damage and is predicting a return to the ring around May.

But he told BBC Five Live: "If a fight comes along sooner I will see the surgeon and see what he recommends."

Hatton was cut above the left eye in the first round against Maussa and started bleeding above the right later on.

But the Manchester boxer remained composed before eventually stopping Colombian Maussa in round nine.

"A lot of the muscles under the skin had not been damaged, so that's a good thing," said Hatton, who had plastic surgery soon after the fight.

There's no particular fighter we are interested in... we are looking at all offers and will go with the best one

"I'm not worried and I'm happy with the job that's been done."

Hatton travels to Las Vegas this weekend to discuss his next fight.

"We are going with an open mind," added Hatton. "There's no particular fighter we are interested in. We are looking at all offers and will go with the best one."

Hatton's father, Ray, told BBC Sport that former WBC champion Arturo Gatti was one possibility.

"Gatti has been mentioned strongly because of the way they both fight," he said. "They're both warriors and it would be a fabulous fight for the fans.

"But Ricky's destiny is in his own hands and there are so many fights out there.

"Ricky will fight who and where he wants to fight."

The Hattons will also be ringside at the middleweight showdown between Jermain Taylor and Bernard Hopkins at the Mandalay Bay Casino in Vegas.

But the main purpose of the weekend will be to meet with some of America's top promoters.

"We've been invited over by Oscar de la Hoya and everyone wants a chat," added Hatton Snr.
