Bowe wants another world title tilt |
Former heavyweight champion Riddick Bowe took a split decision win over Billy Zumbrun in his second fight since ending an eight-year exile from boxing. The American, who has lost only once in 43 pro fights, was hurt at times, but rallied behind his jab and a bulky 280lb frame to survive the 10-rounder.
Bowe was confident early on, indulging in a "funky chicken" dance after a second-round Zumbrun combination.
And he eventually won 96-92 on two scorecards and lost 95-93 on the third.
Bowe had looked set to stop his rival in the fourth, dropping Zumbrun to his knees with a left hook to the body.
But he got into trouble late in the fifth when Zumbrun twice landed a flurry of punches.
And "Big Daddy" - who won two out of three fights against Evander Holyfield in the 1990s - was staggered again by a strong hook in the seventh.
Bowe's grand plan is to emulate legend George Foreman by coming back from a long lay-off to reclaim the world heavyweight title.
