Sprott proved too defensive from the outset of his bout |
Michael Sprott failed in his challenge aganst European heavyweight champion Paolo Vidoz of Italy on Saturday on a unanimous points decision. The 29-year-old from Reading was outscored by one judge 117-113 and 117-112 by the other two judges.
He was too defensive from the outset of the bout in Oldenburg. He rallied late on but it was not enough.
"It was a tough fight and a poor performance from me. I let myself down, that is all I can say," Sprott said.
"He beat me fair and square. I didn't throw enough punches and my jab wasn't effective. I was just standing in front of him.
"It is very strange but it happens in boxing. I will bounce back."
