Golden clash beckons for Arthur
Jamie Arthur
Jamie Arthur says the fight is a revenge match
Jamie Arthur will meet fellow Commonwealth Games gold medallist Haider Ali in Bridgend on 21 January.

Arthur took lightweight gold in the 2002 games in Manchester, where Ali won the featherweight medal.

"Ali beat Peter Ashton, who is a friend and was my team-mate at the Commonwealth Games, so this is a must win fight for me," said Arthur.

"I watched him throughout the Games and felt he was a tremendous fighter - probably the best there."

Arthur has won all nine of his fights since turning professional, but has been troubled by cuts and has not been in action since September.

Ali won his first three fights after turning professional in May 2003, but lost his last outing to Steven Bell, a six-round points decision in May last year.

The bout will be on the undercard of Enzo Maccarinelli's WBU cruiserweight defence against Rich LaMontagne at the Bridgend Leisure Centre.

The main support sees Cwmbran middleweight Gary Lockett pitted against London southpaw Allan Gray.

The bout has been classed as an official British title eliminator, so a win should pave the way for a shot at current holder Scott Dann.

"The British title is the one that all boxers dream of winning and I certainly want to have one in my trophy cabinet," Lockett said.

"I'm within touching distance of challenging for it but I've got to get Gray out of the way first."

Fellow Welsh fighters Tony Doherty and Barrie Jones will also feature, whilst Swansea heavyweight Darren Morgan and Newbridge middleweight Kerry Hope will make their professional debuts.
