Froch stops Woolnough
Carl Froch
Froch was pushed hard by late replacement Woolnough
Carl Froch successfully defended his Commonwealth super middleweight title after stopping Mark Woolnough in the 11th round.

It was a successful first defence for the Nottingham boxer and takes his professional record to 13-0.

Froch should have been fighting British champion Tony Dodson but he was injured in a car crash.

Woolnough stepped in with three days notice and gave a good account of himself before the late stoppage.

Canadian-based Brit Woolnough took the best that Froch had to offer and replied with hooks on his own.

Froch went ahead early on points but Woolnough fought back in the middle rounds before the defending champion upped the pace again.

The end finally came with just 13 seconds of the penultimate round remaining when Froch followed up a huge right-hook with a flurry which led to referee Dave Parris stepping in.
