Wayne McCullough wants to get back into ring again |
Belfast's Wayne McCullough is targeting a ring comeback next month. The former WBC super bantamweight champion is confident of getting on the supporting bill to Audley Harrison's next contest on 19 June.
It would be the 33-year-old McCullough's first fight after a crushing loss to WBO featherweight champions Scott Harrison in March 2003.
''I do not expect a really tough opponent. I just want to feel my way back in,'' said McCullough.
Following his defeat by Harrison there were rumours the Belfast-born fighter might retire.
Following that loss, it was felt he might not be able to rebuild a career which brought him 26 wins in 30 contests, including the WBC bantamweight belt.
But it appears that more than a year later, the ''Pocket Rocket'' is refusing to lie down.
"If the fight comes off it will be on an Audley Harrison bill. I know Audley well and he wants to give the opportunity to get back in the ring.
"I have been out for 14 months but I have been training twice a day, everyday, and am stepping things up."
