WBO cruiserweight champion Johnny Nelson has targeted Dariusz 'the Tiger' Michalczewski for his next bout. Nelson's mandatory challenger is Italy's European champion Vincenzo Cantatore, whilst Welsh youngster Enzo Maccarinelli is eager for a shot.
But Nelson has made a name for himself in Germany and is keen to meet world-rated German-based Pole Michalczewski.
"There's a real buzz in Germany about me and Michalczewski," he told Sheffield Today.
"I've no problem going back there for it, it's a big, big fight that they're saying would fill a 15,000 seat arena.
"I don't expect Cantatore to take the fight. I'd go to Italy and beat him inside 10 rounds and he knows that."
 | I'd destroy Maccarinelli and probably his shining career too |
Nelson, 37, made the 12th defence of his title with an impressive seventh-round stoppage of German Rudiger May in Essen on Saturday. With WBU champion Maccarinelli, 24, destroying Jesper Kristiansen in Newport the previous night, the way seemed clear for a 'Battle of Britain' between the young pretender and the old master in Cardiff in December.
Maccarinelli is desperate for the fight, but Nelson has been pouring cold water on the Swansea man's pretensions.
"Maccarinelli is a good prospect but that is all. I'd destroy him and probably his shining career too," said the Sheffield fighter.
"My performance in Germany completely overshadowed that of his [against Kristiansen]."
