Mayorga has a chequered history |
Former world welterweight champion Ricardo Mayorga has been accused of rape by a 22-year-old woman. The alleged incident is said to have taken place in a hotel room in Managua, Nicaragua in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
An arrest warrant for rape was issued after examinations revealed the woman had injuries inflicted by punches.
Mayorga, who has yet to comment on the allegation, is due to meet Felix Trinidad in New York on 2 October.
Several hotel employees confirmed the 30-year-old Mayorga, a regular client, had taken a room with the woman and both had left chatting to each other at dawn.
In June an arrest warrant was issued after Mayorga wounded and threatened to kill a 22-year-old man - he was later released on bail.
Mayorga won the WBA welterweight crown in 2001 by beating Guyana's Andrew Lewis and defeated Vernon Forrest for the WBC title in 2003.
He lost his belts to Cory Spinks last December and decided to take on Trinidad after struggling to make the 147lb limit.
