Byrd to face Golota
Polish heavyweight Andrew Golota
Golota has a chequered record at the highest level
Andrew Golota is to make his comeback against American Chris Byrd with the IBF heavyweight title on the line.

The pair are slated to meet on the same bill as John Ruiz takes on Fres Oquendo for the WBA crown on 17 April.

The fights will take place at Madison Square Garden the scene of a riot when Golota last fought there.

Golota was disqualified for repeated low blows against Riddick Bowe and the police had to restore order in and out of the ring when trouble broke out.

"I know if I fail now, well, it's now or never," said Golota, who has not fought for two years.

"I was just missing it," he added. "I've been in boxing for most of my life and I missed the excitement in the ring."

Byrd was originally due to face Derrick Jefferson, who was replaced after suffering a cut in a tune-up fight on Friday.
