Magee had no trouble adapting to the step up in weight |
Belfast's Eamonn Magee claimed the WBU welterweight title in Cardiff on Saturday after a straightforward points win over Jimmy Vincent. Magee fought a flawless tactical battle, frustrating Birmingham fighter Vincent's repeated attempts to attack.
"I was glad to use my boxing skills," said Magee. "In the end it was easy."
The Irishman usually fights at light-welter, but stepped up for the title shot after compatriot Neil Sinclair withdrew two weeks ago.
The judges' scorecards of 116-112, 116-112, 119-109 confirmed the ease of Magee's victory.
After the fight, Magee repeated his calls for a rematch with Manchester's Ricky Hatton.
"I have signed a six-fight deal with Frank Warren but the fight British fight fans want is me against Ricky Hatton.
''Why not at a catch weight of 10 stone three and a half? If Ricky wins he can decide which title he wants."
