The former world champion, who retired from the sport because of a detached retina, is confident he can obtain a licence from the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBC).

Bruno, 41, last fought against Mike Tyson seven years ago but says he is in good enough shape to return to the ring for a one-off bout against Harrison in August.

Harrison set for Bruno bout

"I'm working every single day," Bruno told Radio Five Live.

"I've started to train people and train young boxers, I'm not just sitting in my house drinking champagne.

"If I had to get back into the ring in a month's time I would feel mentally and physically ready to do that.

"If George Foreman has done it and others have done it, I don't see why I can't do it."

The fighter hinted that he may still return to boxing even if the BBBC turn him down.

"They're not the only board out there, so we'll wait and see," he said.

Bruno is confident that he can easily beat the 31-year-old Harrison, who won gold at the Sydney Olympics in 2000 and who has 10 professional victories under his belt.

Bruno 'can humble Harrison'

"I could beat him inside three rounds if you want to know the truth," said Bruno.

"I've studied him and he's in the right sort of market to be picked like a fresh orange."

Bruno insisted he wants to fight Harrison to give British boxing fans a lift.

"Boxing is having a bad run at the moment and there's not a lot of characters around," he said.

"I think this will definitely give it a lift. It would be a good all-round fight for the British public to see.

"British boxing needs a fight like that - the Nigel Benn-Michael Watson, Nigel Benn-Chris Eubank fights are gone."
