Hatton will be defending his WBU light-welterweight title |
Boxing promoter Frank Warren has launched a 'tickets for guns' campaign to support the National Firearms Amnesty. The government and police-backed scheme was launched on Monday and will run for the next month.
And Warren has promised to give free tickets for Saturday's double world title bill in Manchester to anyone handing over illegal or legal firearms.
Ricky Hatton will be defending his WBU light-welterweight title against American veteran Vince Phillips while Anthony Farnell puts his WBU middleweight crown on the line against Birmingham's Wayne Elcock.
Members of the public can hand in firearms at their local police station and in return will receive one voucher per gun.
That voucher can then be handed over either at the MEN Arena or sent to the Sports Network office where in return the person will receive a ticket to the show.
Warren said: "I am delighted to set up this scheme with the Government and police and believe that it will be a positive step to get guns off the street.
"Sports Network operated a similar scheme in New Mexico three years ago with Johnny Tapia and that was a great success and I believe the same results can happen here.
"I came from a working-class street background, as do most of the boxers I work with, and I think people from similar backgrounds will find it easier to relate to what we say, rather than what politicians say about guns."
