Jamie Arthur beat Daniel Thorpe on points over four rounds |
Wales' Commonwealth Games gold medallist Jamie Arthur won his professional debut against Sheffield journeyman Daniel Thorpe. The 23-year-old Cwmbran lightweight enjoyed a four-round points success at Glasgow's Braehead Arena on Saturday night.
The pair were fighting on the Scott Harrison-Wayne McCullough bill, where Scotland's Harrison successfully defended his WBO featherweight title.
Veteran McCullough, who has fought some of the world's finest during his career, was dismantled over 12 rounds and was taken to hospital afterwards, believed to be suffering from dehydration.
Arthur's next professional appearance could be on the undercard of another potential blockbuster.
There has been talk of him appearing on a possible Joe Calzaghe-William Joppy card at Cardiff Castle on 3 May, which would raise his profile even further.
Arthur has been in training at Charlie Pearson's Penarth gym and is looking forward to fighting on home turf.
