Round One: The fight kicks off at a tremendous pace, with both men trading blows at close range. Calzaghe's fans start singing 'Bread of heaven' as their man lands a three punch combination to rock Brewer. Round Two: Calzaghe opens up on Brewer with a flurry of hooks and the stunned American has to go on the defensive. Like the first round, this stanza belongs to the champion. Round Three: The American enjoys his best moments at the start of the round, marching toward Calzaghe and landing shots to the body. Despite landing two huge left hooks, Calzaghe is unable to floor the supposedly vulnerable Brewer. Round Four: Like the first three rounds, this period contains some ferocious exchanges. The American is now the aggressor, although it is Calzaghe landing the better and sharper punches. Round Five: Calzaghe's most dominant round sees the champion land a big right hand which rocks Brewer and the American seems weary at the bell. Round Six: The quietest round of the fight, with both men seemingly lacking the intensity and energy of the early rounds. Calzaghe unloads at the end, but is caught hard by Brewer. Round Seven: Calzaghe reverts to the smart boxing style which he utilised as an amateur. His southpaw jab keeps Brewer off balance and the American fires some power punches, one of which appears to rock the champion. Round Eight: Calzaghe's trademark flurries make sure that Brewer is not the danger he was in the previous round. It is a round that the champion wins comfortably. Round Nine: The scrappiest round of the fight sees more holding than punching. But Calzaghe does enough to win it. Round 10: Another scrappy round, which Calzaghe wins by doing the cleaner and sharper punching. Round 11: The tempo increases during the final 30 seconds of the round, one which belongs to Brewer who outworks the tiring champion. Round 12: The fighters touch gloves at the start of the round in a show of respect. Both men are extremely tired, but Brewer chases the champion until the final 30 seconds, when both men unleash furious combinations. The decision is unanimous for Calzaghe, who makes the 10th successful defence of his title. | See also: Other top Boxing stories: Links to more Boxing stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
