Harrison 'ready for world title'
Scott Harrison lands a punch on the face of Tony Wehbee
Scott Harrison (left) could fight in the summer
Scott Harrison proclaimed himself ready to lift a world championship after outclassing Australian Tony Wehbee to retain his Commonwealth title.

The 24-year-old Scot stopped Wehbee, who had suffered a cut above his left eye, in the third round of their contest at Glasgow's Kelvin Hall.

Harrison's next fight is likely to be against WBO champion Julio Pablo Chacon in Glasgow during the summer and a big-money showdown with Prince Naseem Hamed could follow.

British featherweight champion Harrison said: "I am ready now for a world title and to bring it back to Scotland.

"I won't rest until I am a world champion."

There is a renaissance of Scottish boxing and this guy is the flag bearer
Promoter Frank Warren
The Cambuslang fighter looked to have been put on the back foot in the opening round against the wild but dangerous Wehbee.

But Harrison explained that he was simply trying to avoid a lucky early shot from the Australian.

"He was trying to land his bombs in the first and second round," he said.

"I was hitting him with some cracking punches, but he kept coming back."

Those shots finally took their toll and promoter Frank Warren reiterated that the reward was likely to be a shot at Chacon.

"There is a renaissance of Scottish boxing and this guy is the flag bearer," he said.

Harrison's stablemate, Alex Arthur, had taken the IBF Intercontinental super-featherweight title away from Poland's Darius Snarski earlier in the Kelvin Hall bill.

That could lead to a British title fight against Manchester's Michael Gomez on the same bill as Harrison in June or July.

Kelvin Hall results:

Commonwealth Featherweight Championship: Scott Harrison (Cambuslang) bt Tony Wehbee (Aus) rsf 3rd

IBF Intercontinental Super-featherweight Championship: Alex Arthur (Edinburgh) bt Darius Snarski (Pol) rsf 10th

Super-featherweight: Willie Limond (Glasgow) bt Dave Hines (Birmingham) pts

Middleweight: Laurence Murphy (Uddingston) bt Rob Stevenson (Hull) KO.

Light welterweight: Nigel Wright (Hartlepool) bt James Paisley (Larne) pts

Welterweight: Matthew Macklin (Birmingham) bt David Kirk (Sutton in Ashfield) pts

Welterweight: Kevin McIntyre (Paisley) bt Karl Taylor (Birmingham) pts.
