![]() | Sunday, 2 December, 2001, 11:37 GMT McCline mauls Whitaker ![]() Fres Oquendo knocked out David Izon early on Jameel McCline was too strong for Lance Whitaker in the main event of an HBO heavyweight doubleheader in New York. McCline scored an unanimous decision over his 6ft8in opponent with a comprehensive 12-round display. On the undercard, Fres Oquendo kept his unbeaten record with a shock, third-round knockout of David Izon at the Javits Centre. McCline always had the edge on Whitaker with the judges scoring the fight 116-112 114-113 111-112 in his favour. Impressive display The 30-year-old turned professional five years ago after a spell in prison and now has 27 victories from 32 contests. It was not such a good night for Izon, who had not fought for over a year after a number of postponed fights. Oquendo stepped in after Izon's original opponent Wladimir Klitschko withdrew because of a shoulder injury.
