![]() | Saturday, 20 October, 2001, 22:21 GMT 23:21 UK Harrison claims easy win ![]() Harrison lands another blow against Jurczyk Olympic champion Audley Harrison stopped Polish opponent Piotr Jurczyk in round two of the Briton's third professional fight. The heavyweight had his opponent in trouble with a punishing body shot, and the referee was forced to step in at Glasgow's Kelvin Hall. Harrison, wearing Tartan shorts, won the contest after one minute and 24 seconds of the second round. Jurczyk, who had lost eight of his previous 17 bouts, was left doubled-up by the low right cross which ended the fight.
Harrison had hoped to answer his critics on Saturday night after being given a real work-out when beating Derek McCafferty on points in his last bout. The British star promised to deliver a "leaner and meaner" display, and he looked much fitter in a quick-fire victory. Afterwards, he confirmed his next fight is likely to be on 1 December, and could be in London. It was the third successive victory for Harrison, who began his professional career with a first round stoppage of American Michael Middleton in May. Earlier on Saturday's card, Britain's Robin Reid retained his WBF super-middleweight title. Argentine Jorge Sclarandi was counted out by referee Marcus McDonnell with blood pouring from his nose in the final seconds of round three. |
