Greece's Mirela Manjani produced the best throw in the world this year to win gold in the women's javelin. The 1999 world champion's fourth effort was measured at 66.52m - over three metres ahead of silver medallist Tatyana Shikolenko.
European silver medallist Steffi Nerius from Germany took bronze with 62.70m.
Defending world champion and world record holder Osleidys Menendez from Cuba finished back in fifth spot with a throw of 62.19m - more than seven metres less than the throw which won her the title in Edmonton.
"It was not easy to win here," said Manjani, who landed four throws longer than any of her rivals.
"I went through a very hard training period and in practice I have thrown much further than this and I was hoping to repeat my efforts here.
"I know everybody will expect me to win in Athens next year, which puts a lot of pressure on me."
