Lee McConnell had an anxious wait to see if she would qualify |
Lee McConnell at last found her form to deservedly grab a place in Wednesday's 400m final at the World Athletics championships. The Scot, who had been struggling to recapture last year's form following injury, qualified as a fastest loser with a season's best time of 51.06secs in Paris.
McConnell said: "I felt I was in a fight right until the end.
"I was in lane eight and did all the work, pulling the others around. I really went for it and am pleased with the way I ran."
Commonwealth silver and European bronze medallist McConnell desperately tried to hang on to one of the top two places but finished third after being overhauled by Amy Mbacke Thiam.
The Senegal runner incredibly smiled and waved her hands and almost stopped as she crossed the line the winner in 50.78secs.
McConnell is Scotland's only female member of the British team competing in Paris.
Ian Mackie is in the men's 400m relay squad.
