Congratulate Colin
Colin Jackson
Jackson bowed out at Birmingham
After a hugely succesful career Colin Jackson has retired from athletics.

Salute Colin Jackson's remarkable achievements.

The 36-year-old Welshman has called it a day, bowing out in front of a home crowd in Birmingham at the World Indoor Championships.

During his 17-year career Jackson has won World, European and Commonwealth gold and amassed 23 major championship medals.

The highlight of his illustrious career was the 1993 World Championships, where he clocked 12.91 seconds to set a new world record for the 110m hurdles - a record that still stands.

After announcing his intention to retire from the sport Jackson went on to clinch the final gold medal of his career at last year's commonwealth games on home soil in Manchester.

Send in your congratulations to Colin and your memories of one of athletics' all-time greats.

I have followed Colin's career for 18 years. I have travelled all over the country to watch him compete and I also went to Barcelona in 1992. He has been a true ambassador for British sport. He will be sadly missed as a competitor but I sincerely hope that he will enjoy his retirement.

Colin, you are a legend who will never be forgotten
Tracy Clark

If he gets bored he would be more than welcome to visit our school and train our children! Thank you for the years of pleasure you have provided Colin, and wishing you every happiness in the future!
Louise Fryatt

He is a living legend. The epitome of professionalism and gentlemanly conduct, he will be sorely missed on tracks all over the world. I wish him every success in his future ventures, no doubt he will be as thorough in business as he was in every angle of race preparation. He's my hero!
Helen Morris, Wales

Colin has achieved remarkable success during his career whilst representing his country with pride. He is an inspiration to his fellow athletes, and supporters, and will never be forgotten. There is a huge gap in British Athletics now, and a huge gap in world sprinting.

Colin, you are a legend who will never be forgotten. Thanks for all the wonderful memories. You will be sorely missed.
Tracy Clark, England

Colin Jackson has made athletics even more of a joy to watch over the years. What a fantastic ambassador he has been for his sport; his retirement from competition will be a loss for British athletics but I am sure he will continue in some sort of prominent position. The only good thing is that my voice now gets a rest from all the shouting I have done!
Sarah Golding, England

Hi Colin, congratulations on your fantastic and great career! And your records still stand! It has been a pleasure watching you compete in the various competitions over the years. Always a good attitude and a bright smile! Hope to see you back in a supporting role. All the best and success with something new.
Ank, The Netherlands

A great man, who has been a joy to watch!
Helen Kendrick, England

Simply the best, that's all there is to say!
Laura, Wales

A great man, who has been a joy to watch! Congratulations in all you've achieved - now go enjoy your retirement and the very best of luck in all you do.
Helen Kendrick, England

A true giant amongst sportsmen and women. Good luck for your retirement and the future. I hope the Beeb have you "in the studio" not just behind a microphone so we get to see your infectious grin. Will they let you wear shorts in the studio?!?
Anon, England

A great champion! Sorry he never got the Olympic medal he so thoroughly deserved. When in top flight he was always fantastic to watch. Well done!
Lucy, UK/Aus

As an ex-pat Welshman in Finland, I have followed your career with considerable interest for a very long time...in fact, your career began the year I came here!

Colin, you are the greatest. I wish you all the best in the new life that is coming to you where you don't have to press your body and mind into such demanding situations every day. God Bless!
John Lewis, Finland

All the best for the future Colin
Paul85, UK

Hey Colin, 'wow', what can I say, only that you're an excellent athlete and also an extremely talented person. I admire your achievements throughout your athletics career. Everybody has enjoyed watching you compete and we will miss you...hope to see you in the future!
Leona Byrne, Ireland

In my opinion, he was right to stop when he wanted to. Too many athletes finish when they are injured and well past their best. Colin will be remembered as a great athlete and that is what matters.
Helen, England

I've watched him on TV see since I was about four and it saddens me that a legend like Colin Jackson has hung his spikes up for good. All the best for the future Colin.

This Welsh Wizard will be sorely missed on the track. Why? No arrogance, no pompous/prima donna behaviour detected on him, never made any excuses, always honest, I could go on and on... the guy was a great athlete. Once again, best of luck to you Colin.
Paul85, UK

Your '12.91' world record for the 110m hurdles has stood for almost ten years. You set the standard for the rest to aim at! Well done, have some time off and indulge a little.
Matt, Reading, England

Thanks for putting Wales on the map, Colin.
Steve G, UK

Colin Jackson is, was and undoubtedly will continue to be a tremendous ambassador for his sport and his country.
Allister Webb, England

He is a model professional that all young sportsmen and women should aspire to emulate
David Davies, Worcs

This man has redefined what it is to be an athlete. The dedication, the sacrifice, the ability to shut out the outside world with its intrusive media and critics. He stands for pure athletic excellence.

This man can not be taken to task on anything, what he has achieved is humbling to us all. Why this elegant, well-presented and respectful man is not held up more as an example, is one of the great mysteries of British society. Colin Jackson, double world record-holder, good luck in all you do and thank you for the greatest sporting moment of all time.
Peter Maitland, Great Britain

Colin is undoubtedly one of the all-time great athletes, not only for what he has achieved throughout his remarkable career, but the length of time he has remained at the top in such a technical event as the sprint hurdles.

Although he didn't win a medal in Birmingham, he had nothing to prove, because he's done it all before. He has also been so gracious in defeat and is a model professional that all young sportsmen and women should aspire to emulate.

Thanks Colin for some great memories, and good luck in your future career.
David Davies, Worcestershire

Colin Jackson is most definitely the greatest athlete of our time and the 110m hurdles will not be the same without him. He has brought great pride to us Welsh!
Clare Farren, Wales

I don't think there will ever be a sportsman like him. Forget David Beckham, because he will never achieve a tenth of what Colin has achieved.

He is one of the greatest athletes of all time
Hilde, Netherlands

He really has shown what a young, Welsh, black man can strive towards against all the odds. He's the true Prince of Wales. And by the way, Hilde of the Netherlands, Colin ain't one bit English!
Joel Dumont, Wales

Well done Colin, you're an inspiration to millions. There is going to be a huge gap in British athletics now.
Claire R, UK

In my opinion he is one of the greatest athletes of all time. He always seems to have pleasure in doing it, and with great effort. I wish him all the best and hope that the athletic federation of England will do something to acknowledge him.
Hilde, Netherlands

A fantastic career, but what a sorry end. Jackson seemed to be limping over the line, but still saluted the crowd as if he had won the race. I acknowledge his tremendous career but where was that Olympic gold he should have achieved?

Having said that, he was an amazing servant to British athletics. And at the least, he is a tremendous character. He currently holds two world records that may not yet be defeated for a while. He leaves a lasting legacy and it was unfortunate that he never quite achieved that crowning glory.
Andy F, Merseyside, England

Colin, as he promised, went out on his own terms. Not injured like many unforunately do, but fit and well. It would have been fitting for him to win the World Indoor final in my opinion, as a great exit for a even greater champion. Good luck to him. All the best to Colin, thanks for the memorable races!
D, UK
