Sprinters Mark Lewis-Francis and Christian Malcolm have been reinstated on UK Athletic's World Class Performance Programme funding list. The duo lost their top-tier lottery funding in October 2009 but have got it back after their displays at the European Championships in July. Lewis-Francis won a 100m silver medal and Malcolm was second in the 200m. Perri Shakes-Drayton and Chris Thompson will get podium funding in a list of 96 athletes who will receive assistance. Thompson took silver in the 10,000m at the European Championships in Barcelona and Shakes-Drayton secured bronze medals in the 400m hurdles. | 606: DEBATE |
UK Athletics head coach Charles van Commenee said: "Athletes must prove themselves continuously to maintain their position on the programme, which has performance at its core and we must demonstrate a clear return on investment to the lottery-playing public. They want to see winners in British vests. "There is no denying that, with two years to go, all eyes are firmly fixed on the 2012 Olympic Games but 2011 really is crucial to any potential successes in London. "I am confident the group of athletes selected will be amongst those competing at the eight international events this year and will represent themselves and the Aviva Great Britain and Northern Ireland team well on the international stage."
