Joseph Kibunja won the Jersey Marathon after finishing third last year |
Organisers of the Jersey marathon have appealed for more volunteers to help with marshalling at the race. The race, which will be held on 3 October, has attracted around 400 entrants so far. Race director Helen Baker said: "With record numbers numbers registered for this year's event, the role of marshals is as important as ever. "We hope that similar with previous Jersey marathons, Islanders will come forward and lend support." She added: "Marshalling is often popular with family members of competitors who don't want to miss out on the action. Marshals' duties involve ensuring the safety of competitors and crowds along the 26.2 mile route. The 2009 Jersey marathon was won by Kenyan athlete Joseph Kibunja in a time of two hours 33 minutes and 29 seconds.
