Yamauchi finished 10th in the 2010 London Marathon

Britain's Mara Yamauchi is hoping for a double success in New York when she takes part in the city's marathon.

The Japan-based 36-year-old won the New York City Half Marathon in a course record time in March and will make her debut in the full event in November.

She chose not to compete at the recent European Athletics Championships in Barcelona in favour of taking part in a race in the autumn.

"New York is an iconic race. I will give it everything," said Yamauchi.

"I can't wait to return to New York and race against the best marathon runners in the world.

"I hope to join the illustrious list of winners of this amazing race."

Yamauchi, who won the 2010 New York Half Marathon in a record time of one hour, nine minutes and 25 seconds, will join fellow Britons Claire Hallissey and Alyson Dixon in the full event on 7 November.

No runner has ever won New York's full and half marathons in the same year. The last British winner of the former event was Paula Radcliffe in 2008.

Yamauchi, who was born in Oxford, finished a disappointing 10th in this year's London Marathon in two hours, 26 minutes and 16 seconds, having been runner-up at the event in 2009.

"Mara join our field well poised to achieve a historic double and continue the tradition of strong British performances in New York," said New York Road Runners president Mary Wittenberg.
