Replay - Jeter streaks to 100m win American Carmelita Jeter has set her sights on breaking the women's 100m world record at the British Grand Prix at Gateshead on Saturday. Jeter won the event last year and went on to record a time of 10.64 seconds to become the second fastest woman, behind Florence Griffith-Joyner's 10.49. "I'm hoping to see something special from myself," she said. "I'm excited to see what the clock is going to say." Jeter, 30, will take on Jamaica's world and Olympic champion Shelly Ann Fraser. And Jeter is confident she can emulate Powell's record-breaking achievements and eclipse Griffith-Joyner's 10.49 seconds set in 1988. "My training has been going so well and I'm not usually a person that gets caught up in how well you train because sometimes you can go to a meet and just flop," she said. "I've never had training sessions where John Smith (coach) is just looking at me with nothing to say. "He's just been looking at me speechless because he's got nothing to say to me right now which is kinda scary because I'm like 'say something' and he's all 'well what do you want me to say to this, I can't say anything'. "I could hear fans screaming at me bopping in the blocks. It was a good energy meet and I like good energy meets, they always make me run well, when I can hear the crowd or feel how people love track and field. And Gateshead was definitely a place that had energy. "Every meet in Britain I've always run well so I'm pretty excited to come to Gateshead and I hope that I can do the same thing." Jeter finished third behind the Jamaican duo of Veronica Campbell-Brown and Shelly-Ann Fraser in the latest Diamond League 100m in Eugene last weekend. She still leads the Diamond League standings over the distance by a point. Jeter versus Fraser is not the only US v Jamaica sprint duel as her friend and compatriot Tyson Gay is set to take on Asafa Powell for the first time this season. "No-one's seen Tyson run 100m this year so everyone wants to see what Asafa and Tyson are going to do," Jeter continued. "But I like to see that we have a little limelight on the meet because it's about time for the Jeters and the Frasers and the Veronica Campbells to have the big impact on the sport."
