Injured Jessica Ennis set to be fit for World Indoors

World heptathlon champion Jessica Ennis is set to compete at the World Indoor Championships in March despite missing the Grand Prix in Birmingham.

Ennis, who has a foot ligament strain, also missed last week's World Trials and UK Championships in Sheffield.

But UK Athletics head coach Charles van Commeneee told BBC Sport on Saturday: "I think she will get the green light over the next few days.

"There is no reason to think she won't be there in Doha."

Ennis, who had already qualified for the World Indoor Championships from 12-14 March, injured her foot while winning the 60m hurdles at an international meeting in Glasgow on 30 January.

"New scans of my foot show it has healed a lot," said the 24-year-old on Thursday when she pulled out of the Birmingham meeting.

"But with the World Indoors only a few weeks away, the advice from the UK Athletics medical team is to give it a little more time to completely heal.

"I am really happy with the way my foot is healing, training has not stopped and [coach] Toni [Minichiello] will gradually increase the intensity with all the focus on Doha."

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 live's Sportsweek on Sunday, the Sheffield-based multi-eventer emphasised that July's European Championships in Barcelona remained her main focus.

Adding that security factors were not the reason behind missing the Commonwealth Games in India, Ennis said: "It's hard to peak for two major championships because October is when my training usually begins. The Europeans is my key target."

Ennis revealed her motivation to win more medals remained strong, despite becoming world champion in Berlin last summer and the prospect of focusing on a single event was something she would not consider until later in her career.

"Becoming world champion was great but I am training the same as last year and I've still got the drive," she added. "There's a lot more I want to achieve.

"I still really enjoy heptathlon and would get bored with one event. Maybe in the future when my body gets tired of all the events!"
