Merrien said he was aiming for a second GB squad selection |
Guernsey's Lee Merrien is hoping to qualify to represent Great Britain at the European Cross Country Championships in Liverpool. The 29-year-old is competing at the second cross country race in the UK challenge, a qualifier for the GB squad competing in Dublin next month. He said: "A top three finish guarantees my selection, but a top five and I'm in with a shout of making the team." Merrien previously put on a British vest in December 2008. He joined five team-mates to win bronze at the Spar European Cross Country Championships in Brussels, finishing in a scoring position as the fourth Briton home. He will be joined by three other Guernsey runners in Liverpool as 12-year-old Katie Rowe compete in the under-13s, while Louise Perrio and Sarah Mercier are signed up for the women's race.
