Isinbayeva has dominated the women's pole vault in recent years

Russia's Yelena Isinbayeva went some way to making up for her World Championships disaster by setting a pole vault world record in Zurich.

Isinbayeva, 27, failed to defend her world title in Berlin last week when she did not manage to clear a height.

But she was back to her best in the Golden League meeting as she jumped 5.06 metres, improving her own mark by one centimetre.

Isinbayeva has now set 15 world records outdoors and 12 indoors.

Entering the contest at 4.71 metres, she easily cleared the bar at her first attempt and also had no trouble with her next jump at 4.81, before sending the stadium into uproar by clearing 5.06.

"In Berlin, I only had three jumps so I felt fresh," said Isinbayeva.

"This is unbelievable, crazy. Now I understand why there was that defeat in Berlin - to have this amazing result. It's like a dream, it's hard to believe."
