Radcliffe, 35, is no certainty to compete in Berlin in August |
Paula Radcliffe will not set a date for her return to competitive racing until getting an accurate assessment of the condition of her right foot. She had an operation to remove a bunion in March and is also recovering from a broken toe on the same foot. Radcliffe, 35, plans to resume full-time training in the near future and is keen to regain the IAAF world marathon title she won two years ago. But she will not run in Berlin in August unless she is 100% fit. Last summer she battled a stress fracture in her right femur to finish 23rd in the Olympic marathon, but has no intention of taking that kind of risk again. | 606: DEBATE |
Gary Lough, her manager and husband, said: "Everything depends on how quickly things get back to normal, but everyone is happy with how things have gone." The mother-of-one is currently at her home in Monaco but is expected to move to her high-altitude training base at Font Romeu in the French Pyrenees when given the all-clear to start light training. The decision to have surgery was taken when the world record holder suffered a fractured toe in Albuquerque, New Mexico at the beginning of March, a setback forced her to shelve plans to win the London Marathon for a fourth time. Specialists believe the bunion is a potential cause of other injuries which have troubled her in recent years.
