Jo Pavey thinks the Great North 10k will be unique
Commonwealth 5,000m silver medallist Jo Pavey has given her backing to the Great North 10k on Sunday 12 July.
The race in Sunderland will feature a course taking in the city centre and the surrounding coastline.
Formerly the Great Women's Run, the 10km event is being opened up to male entrants and will be a warm-up for the Great North Run in September.
Pavey told BBC Radio Newcastle: "It's a well talked about race that's going from strength to strength."
The 35-year-old added: "It's just amazing the way it takes in the city centre and the seafront and I've always been keen to run here.
"This year the race was definitely in my plans but now I'm pregnant I do hope to make it round in some way but not as fast as I was planning originally.
"Long term I'm very keen to get back to running at the London Olympics. I think running in your own country is a dream come true and that's my long term goal."
