Kibet dropped out of the Beijing Olympics marathon after 18 miles |
Kenya's world marathon champion Luke Kibet has confirmed he plans to take part in April's London Marathon. The London race will be the only event the 25-year-old Kenyan will run in before he defends his world title in Berlin in August. "I am shaping up well for the two races and I have to suspend any other race this year," said the Kenyan. Kibet's world title victory at Osaka in 2007 was the first by a Kenyan runner in the event since 1987. He dropped out of the Beijing Olympics marathon, which was eventually won by his compatriot Samuel Kamau Wanjiru, after 18 miles. At last year's London Marathon Kibet finished 11th with a time of 2 hours and 12 minutes and 25 seconds.
