Radcliffe to make Great South bow

Paula Radcliffe
Radcliffe is looking to win a third New York marathon

Paula Radcliffe will make her first appearance since the Beijing Olympics when she competes in the Great South Run later this month.

The 34-year-old will run in Portsmouth on 26 October as part of her preparations for the New York Marathon.

Radcliffe said: "I do not know much about the course but I've heard it's fast and I'm sure the atmosphere will be great."

Fellow British Olympian Jo Pavey will also compete in Portsmouth.

Brendan Foster - the founder of the Great Run events - commented: "We have always had an excellent relationship with Paula and I'm delighted she's coming to another of our flagship events.

"Last year we had the pleasure of welcoming her back in the Great North Run after spending 21 months away from running through injury and then the birth of her daughter Isla.

"Now her appearance in Portsmouth will add to the massive reputation of the Great South Run and I'm sure although they are good friends, Paula and Jo will produce a memorable race."
