Parsons has jumped four personal bests at the Alexander Stadium |
Birmingham high jumper Tom Parsons cannot wait to take on the best in the country at next month's Olympic Trials in his home town. Parson's takes on Britain's top jumper last year, Germaine Mason, Commonwealth silver medallist Martyn Bernard and current indoor champion Samson Oni. "The competition is very healthy which is good for the sport. But it doesn't faze me," Parsons said. "I'm looking forward to a massive summer - hopefully ending in Beijing." Parsons finished 10th at last year's World Championships in Japan and knows it will take his best to book his place at the Olympics in August. "It's good to have the trials in my own back yard and the home crowd will help. "I've jumped four personal bests there so I tend to do well. I need to jump 2.30m to qualify for Beijing and I'm confident I can do it." Parsons is hoping he can also learn a few things off Olympic champion Stefan Holm, with whom he shares an agent. "I would be foolish not to pick up tips from the best," Parsons admitted. "I am planning to watch Stefan train and learn things from him which might make all the difference." The National Championships take place at Birmingham's Alexander Stadium between 11-13 July.
