Turnbull is chasing the Olympic 1500m standard of 3:36.60 |
Gareth Turnbull rounded off his spring stint in the US by claiming a win over 1500 metres in Tallahassee on Sunday. Turnbull had originally planned to run in Knoxville in Tennessee but after travelling to that venue, the race was cancelled because of bad weather. The Belfast man then returned to his training base in Tallahassee where he was a late entry in a low-key meeting. Turnbull clocked 3:43 to take a facile win although he confessed to feeling tired after all the travelling. The Belfast man will return home later this week.
He has been training in the US for the past six weeks, under the watchful eye of his coach Mark Carroll.
Turnbull needs to run 3:36.60 this season to qualify for the Olympic Games in Beijing.
