Lewis won the bronze medal at Melbourne in 2006

Lewis told BBC Radio Stoke: "The rules are the rules and he's served his ban. He can only do as he is told.

"The rules are that he is now allowed to run, as long as he sticks to the rules from now on then you can't kick up a fuss about it."

Lewis, 21, set a new personal best of 5.70m in February.

The 2006 Commonwealth bronze medalist endured a torrid time with injuries in 2007 but said he has been injury free so far this year.

"The body is good at the moment. I've had to modify my training slightly to ensure I suffer no more problems with my wrist but I haven't had any major disruptions," he said.

Lewis admitted that there had been no single reason for his recent success, rather it was the culmination of years of hard work.

"I think pole vault is an event that you grow into and I think at the moment things are coming together well for me," he added.

"My coach has a good idea of how I should be progressing physically and I'm learning more about the event all the time."

Lewis' current form has led him to believe that he is in with a great chance of success at the World Indoor Championships.

"I'm really excited about the World Indoors. I'm focused on making the final and I think I can go there and be competitive," he said.

Looking beyond the Word Indoors, Lewis believes he is on the verge of realising his dream to become an Olympian.

"Obviously I want to be at the Olympics and in the final with a chance of a medal. Hopefully this year is when that dream comes true," he added.
