Richard Buck set his fourth personal best of the season in Birmingham |
City of York athlete Richard Buck set another personal best at the Norwich Union Grand Prix in Birmingham. The 400m runner from Pickering clocked 46.34 seconds in finishing third to Canadian Tyler Christopher.
His coach Geoff Barraclough said: "As yet we haven't done any proper speed training, we've just thrown in an extra bit of speed into his winter training."
Barraclough will introduce serious speed work in March, so that Buck can hit top form in the Beijing Olympics.
Buck, 21, has limited his indoor appearances after suffering a number of injuries last season.
Barraclough said: "We blamed the tight bends (at indoor tracks) for some of those injuries."
Buck set a new personal best time twice in his previous event in Sheffield, and is now targeting a medal at the World Indoor Championships in Valencia in March.

In the meantime Barraclough will introduce a speed training schedule after meeting officials at UK Athletics to discuss Buck's progress.
The training is geared for Buck to win a place in the Great Britain squad for Beijing, and for his form to peak when he races there.
As for Buck's potential, Barraclough added: "This is delving into the unknown. We do know there's a lot we can work on yet, technique-wise he's got an awful lot to learn."
