Pavey had been looking forward to running on Tyneside |
Britain's Jo Pavey has been forced to pull out of the BUPA Great North Run with a groin injury. The Commonwealth 5,000 metres silver medallist said: "I'm absolutely gutted, I was really looking forward to returning for the Great North Run.
"I picked the injury up almost a fortnight ago. I accidentally slipped and it has hampered my training.
"I've had first-class treatment but am not ready to do myself justice. A fast race could cause more problems."
Pavey, 34, finished fourth in last year's event.

This year she was due to compete along with fellow Briton Paula Radcliffe, who will make her long-awaited return to competitive action.
Pavey has yet to decide whether she will be fit enough to run for the Great Britain team at next month's IAAF World Road Running Championships in Italy.
