Douglas misses Worlds with injury
Nathan Douglas
Douglas was a leading British medal hope
Triple jumper Nathan Douglas will miss next month's World Championships in Osaka after tearing his hamstring.

The 24-year-old had been tipped as a medal contender after winning silver behind fellow Briton Phillips Idowu at the European Indoors in March.

The Oxford jumper was also second in last summer's European Championships.

Douglas picked up the injury - a grade three tear to the hamstring - when finishing fourth in the IAAF Grand Prix in Madrid last weekend.

Douglas' latest setback follows a knee injury three years ago, which was followed by a bone spur operation in October 2005.

"It's very bad news, particularly for the athlete who in the past has shown through his consistency that he can challenge for major championship medals," said UK Athletics performance director Dave Collins .

"Nathan was gearing up for Osaka extremely well and I can imagine his disappointment at what has happened. His absence will be a great loss to the team."
