Tomlinson finished fifth in the 2004 Olympics final |
British long jump record-holder Chris Tomlinson has had to pull out of this weekend's European Cup in Munich after failing a fitness test. A scan on Wednesday revealed bruising on the left heel that will keep Tomlinson out for a week.
"I'm very disappointed. It's a big cup, and I've done well there in the past," he told BBC Radio Cleveland.
"But if it allows me to compete for the rest of the season injury-free, then that's what I'll be hoping for."
Middlesbrough-born Tomlinson, 25, had been in impressive form recently, coming within four centimetres of his own national record as he leapt 8.23m at a meeting in Prague.
"It's not great to be missing a competition straight after Prague," he said.
"But the World Championships are at the back end of August, and that would be the worst time to be injured."
