Anna Boyle and Gareth Turnbull failed to reach their finals

Sprinter Boyle was sixth in her 60 metres semi-final in 7.36 seconds having earlier broken her own Irish record when clocking 7.30 in the heats.

There was disappointment for Belfast's Gareth Turnbull in the 1500 metres.

Turnbull ran 3:52.20 to finish 10th in his 1500m heat, out of contention for a place in the final, but his Irish team-mate James Nolan did get through.

Ireland's Paul Hession sealed a place in the men's 60m final by finishing fourth in the semi-finals with a time of 6.64 seconds.

In the heats Hession had run 6.61 to better his national record.

Defending champion Alistair Cragg was sixth in the final of the 3000 metres.
